Gede Pangrango National Park is situated upon two volcanoes, Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango in West Java. This biodiverse gem of Indonesia has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1977.

Gede Pangrango National Park is situated upon two volcanoes, Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango in West Java. This biodiverse gem of Indonesia has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1977.

In 2010 during a scouting trip looking for the pearly frog (Nyctixalus margaritifer), a Javan endemic, I had a chance to explore this beautiful and biologically rich area. After several days and nights of searching, on the last night of my stay in the reserve I finally heard my frog calling from high in the bird's nest ferns of the canopy. Though the pearly frog eluded my camera, I was able to capture a few natural moments and some of the interesting lifeforms that call Gunung Gede Pangrango home.
